Canon Character Application
My name is Cherrypit and I am 16 years old. I want to join this site because I'm relatively new to RPing (but I'm more than literate, trust me~) and so far I really enjoy these hetalia AU RP forums and I hope to improve my overall roleplaying ability~. I have been roleplaying for a couple months and I normally post between the 2-4 paragraphs mark. Here is my application:
Character name: Iceland (Sveinn Baldursson)
Age: 17
Appearance:Iceland has disheveled silver-white hair and piercing eyes that range from icy blue to violet depending on his mood. He is also the youngest and shortest (not counting sealand) of the Scandinavians. He is usually seen wearing a white dress shirt with a brown overcoat and pants, along with white half-laced boots. He is usually seen with his companion pet puffin, who occasionally sports a pink bow-tie.
Personality: On the surface, most only see a cool and composed young man. Despite this, Iceland is truly passionate and has a fiery spark inside him. He cares deeply for his brother Norway, the only one who has been there consistently for him (although he becomes flustered when people try to get him to call Norway "brother").
Because of his isolation from others, he seems to have developed an odd sense of humor that goes over others' heads, (and in turn, other people's humor goes over his as well) making social interaction even harder for the little Scandinavian. And though he does not seek conflict and turmoil, Iceland is not a stranger to such things.
Occupation: Iceland is a cleric type. He uses magic when he needs to and can also make due with a sword, which he learned in his viking ages. His powers are derived from faith in the legends and ancient nordic folklore.
Strengths: His uncanny ability to withstand cold, admirable perseverance and loyalty, resourcefulness, diplomacy and inclination to avoid conflict are all qualities that strengthen him.
Weaknesses: Lack of understanding, oblivion to outsiders, and a short temper are weak points for Iceland. He is also suspicious of everyone he meets, which sometimes proves useful in this day and age, but also tends to hamper his communication with potentially helpful strangers.
Backstory:
Iceland's earliest memories are of Norway discovering him and caring for him. He prospered and grew peacefully for many years with Norway. Eventually word spread to his other Norwegian relatives, and despite Norway's protest, the five of them (Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland) all lived together under one union.
The wild and unruly Denmark bullied everyone quite alot, though his intentions were good. All of Iceland's new family members did not need any of the few resources he could offer, thus suffering a bit of depression and difficulty socializing. To make matters worse, Denmark made him agree that he would not be allowed to trade with anyone but him. This made other countries he hadn't even met before angry and they began bullying Iceland as well. After a while, Sweden and Finland got tired of Denmark's behavior and moved out of the union. Norway soon followed suit, but Denmark make Iceland stay because he was too weak to disagree.
Eventually Denmark relinquished his grip on Iceland, and he attempted to return to a bit of peace and normalcy. But this was short-lived, soon Nazi-Germany came along and began pressuring the Scandinavians to join him. Iceland remained neutral, but not without much effort. After this episode, word had spread of England planning on taking him prisoner. Iceland, being sick and tired of these conflicts, managed to sweet-talk the British out of their invasion.
Now, what with natural resources being depleted and becoming increasingly harder to obtain, Iceland isn't exactly the richest person in the world, being isolated and all. But being a resourceful guy, he hasn't exactly run out of hope and ideas yet. Recently Russia, another nation who is somewhat isolated in the cold, has offered to extend a helping hand to the Scandinavian, but not without triggering Iceland's suspicion.
Sample Post:
It was strange for this man to be offering his assistance for nothing. Though they could relate in many ways, Iceland was not going to ignore the fact that Russia was once, and may still be a very powerful person, not to be underestimated. Not to mention that he was notorious for luring in people who were smaller and more vulnerable than he into servitude.
Maybe he was being genuine though? Who could blame him for wanting to help me and gain an ally in these tough times? But then Iceland remembered his cousin Denmark and how he had tried to "help" everyone in his family. His big headed cousin was living proof that the road to hell was paved with good intentions.
He faced the large russian man before him and chose his words carefully before responding to his inquiry.
"Tell your master," Iceland spoke slowly and calmly, "that I will consider his... generous offer. But it is still unclear to me what he will expect of me once... If I accept his kind gesture." It isn't everyday someone offers you 2 tons of Celestial Iron and doesn't expect anything in return... :Dz6
