Original Character Application
My name is AYA and I am 17 years old. I want to join this site because IT LOOKS COOL AND NOT ELITIST. I have been roleplaying for 7 YEARS and I normally post between the 200-400 mark. Here is my application:
Full Character Name: Sesilia Beata Mikkelsen
Representing Country: Faroe Islands
Age: Physically about 19, actually over 1,400...
Gender: Female
Religion: Lutheran
Sexuality: Bisexual
Status: Single
Occupation: A priest(ess), but she broke with the order when she converted to Lutheranism, so she is more of a free-roaming healer/preacher. Her magic is entirely light-based, though she knows a few (vague) things about darker magic.
Strengths: Sesilia is very strong-willed, and isn't easy to push around. She is easy to cheer up, and is generally a pleasant person to be around. She has great loyalty to the people she loves and cares about the most, and will do anything to make them happy. She loves people very deeply and passionately, and in her heart, believes that the world is a decent place, despite the bad things. She is rarely stressed out, and takes a relatively laid-back approach to life.
Weaknesses: She has a bad temper, and can be very hurtful when provoked into anger. If you hurt her or make her mad, she has a hard time letting go or forgetting about it, and will hold it against you for a long time. She is very naïve, and often masks her confusion by writing something off or shoving it away. Sesilia is still somewhat immature and doesn't handle criticisms of anything well: she always takes it personally. Her moods can be somewhat mercurial- happy one moment and sad the next, which tends to make the people around her a little crazy.
Personality: Sesilia is always friendly and polite to strangers, though she tends to keep them at a distance. She is very chatty if she likes you. She has been abandoned a lot in her life and prefers to only keep those around who are willing to stick with her through good and bad. This tends to create a vicious cycle, however, because she doesn't want to open up to new people, and yet she feels isolated. She tries her best to open up to people, but there is some difficulty. Even among the Nordics, she feels very lonely at times and doesn't feel like she fits in.
Deeply religious, Sesilia can come off as very holier-than-thou or disapproving of people's life styles. This stems mostly from her naïvety more than actual disapproval, however. It's her way of saying that she doesn't understand something, and the people who understand this aspect of her find it easy to get close to her. She hates gossip and has no patience for those who spread it. She holds grudges easily and will not forget the wrongs done against her any time soon. She can be very mean-spirited, especially when provoked, but she is also very sensitive to criticisms.
She is fond of fishing, and is pretty good at it, a handy thing when an inn or village isn't nearby. Most of her other interests are very domestic, though, such as her skills at knitting (and sewing), but she is very fond of the outdoors and loves to bird-watch. She is one of the few people who can not only tolerate England's cooking, but actually likes it. She hates it when Denmark bosses her around, getting sick, and people who don't know who she is. She burns easily in bright sunlight, and avoids it when she can.
Despite her flaws, Sesilia is a very genuine, nice person. She is usually very relaxed and laid-back, and willing to go with the flow (provided it won't cause too much trouble). She is the sort of person who loves with her entire being, the kind of woman who would sacrifice herself and her own happiness to make a loved one smile. When her heart is broken, so is her spirit, but she is not weak, and she will stand up to those who try to walk all over her if she has to. She has endured many trials over the years of her existence and is unafraid of what comes next. Being in the darkness has helped her appreciate the stars.
Backstory:
Sesilia's earliest memories are being raised among the Irish monks that first lived with her. Her early life was hard, but good, and the monks instilled a deep and abiding love of God in her. But there were long periods of time as a young girl when she was completely alone, making existence hard for her. When Norway's vikings came along, she was happy to join his house, if only for the company and the new people that came to her home. She had her parliament and her God, and she was content.
But then the darkest time in Sesilia's memory came, the time of the Black Plague. Sesilia herself was nearly felled, and so were half of all her people. She watched with horror as mass graves were dug, utterly broken-hearted. She became bitter towards Norway, and even now blames him for their deaths, silently if not aloud, though she knows that he too was affected by the sickness. But he did his best to make it up to her, and eventually she grew warmer towards him once more. She even stood by him and applauded like a politician's wife when he and Denmark joined households.
However, after a while it became very clear to her that Norway and Denmark were only out to cheat her, and she was infuriated. They took her supplies with little or no regard, and moved her from house to house like a piece on a chess board. By the time she moved permanently to Denmark's house, losing her language and her parliament, she began to pull against him and dream of freedom for the first time.To this day, she has very mixed feelings about Denmark. She was tired of being pushed around, no matter how small she was on her own. She began to branch out and grow stronger, more self-reliant. All she had to do was wait for the perfect moment...
When the Second World War arrived to Denmark, and he was forced into Germany's house, England came to stay with her for a while to ensure her safety. She was quite fond of him, especially his chocolate, and she was happy to let him stay. For the first time, she was essentially free to do as she pleased, free to fly her flag and free to handle her own affairs. It was thrilling, and when Denmark was back in his own house she put her foot down and demanded autonomy, if nothing else. Denmark complied. Nowadays, he basically leaves her to herself, a fact she is immeasurably grateful for. She is still uncertain as to whether she wants to really leave him forever or not.
Sample Post: (100 characters or above)
"We have come to a decision, Føyorar." Sesilia's head shot up at the sound of her name, staring at Denmark and Norway with nervous, intense eyes. She had waited outside the meeting room for three, four hours now, waiting and wondering what her rulers would have to say. She hated not being in there, hated not having a say in her state of affairs, but she was not equal to them. Her brothers were free to rule over her as they pleased. So it was decreed by God and man, and Sesilia would not disobey the laws of God.
"It is time for us to turn away from the Papists, and look directly to the Lord himself." The shock of their decision brought the tears rolling down her face before she could even realise they had been shed, and she wiped them away hastily, trying for once not to look like a weak woman. She was more than that, after all. She was the symbol of her people.
"And what of the monks and nuns? Will you have them killed as well?" She could not hide the bitterness in her voice. She could not look at them, trying so hard as she was to keep the tears away, and found herself clenching and unclenching her fists.
"Don't accuse us of being so cruel. We are not savage heathens. They shall be free to continue until the last of them has died." Sesilia did not need to even hear what would happen next, it was patently obvious.
"I shall leave the convent, then." She felt like a child, suddenly. She wanted to thrash and shout, to pound on their damned chests until she could make them see that this was not the way to go, and she was not surprised when she found herself doing just that a moment later. Denmark grabbed her hands to stop her, but she slapped him, hearing the gasp of surprise from Norway as the sharp sound echoed in the hallway. He tried to chase after her, but she was already too far gone.
