Original Character Application
My name is Sunni and I am probably younger than all of you. I want to join this site because I want to join a Hetalia RP. I have been roleplaying since January and I normally post between the 200+ mark. Here is my application:
Full Character Name:Catherine Dello Iavaco
Representing Country:The Vatican City
Age:
Appears 13, actual age indefinite.
Gender:
Female
Religion:
Roman Catholic. She is a very strict Catholic, so almost all of her view points are the ones of the Roman Catholic Church.
Sexuality:
Heterosexual.
Status:
Single. Very much so. And she is planning on it remaining this way ‘till she gets married. (Not saying that this is necessarily the case.)
Occupation:
Priestess and Missionary. The powers she is able to control are Light and Holy magic. She has trained them up, almost to perfection, but she still loses control when her temper flares. But, with her control over them, she can do incredible things. Using her powers for things like healing wounds and curing the sick, is fairly easy on a smaller scale. It takes almost no power to do such things. Then taken up a level, repairing a severed limb or fighting evil forces with magic, it does take some power and she will need to rest and eat to make up for it. Very rarely does she take it up to another stage. She can banish armies or clear a plague at this stage. However, there is a downside of this much power being used. She passes out for at least twenty four hours, if not more, and when she wakes up she is incredibly weak, both physically and magically. Physically, she’d be physically weaker in the sense she’d struggle to walk over three kilometers. Magically, she would be practically helpless, not being able to do more than healing a paper cut. Even doing just that would drain her.
Being a missionary, she travels Fantasia, preaching. She talks to everyone about everything.
Strengths:
She has an amazing power over her abilities, as stated above. Another of her major strengths is that she can speak two languages. Possibly being the only person left to still speak the dead language, Latin, she can also make more educated guesses at other European languages that stemmed from Latin.
Catherine is very sure about what she believes in and therefore she knows why she does things and does not doubt herself.
Weaknesses:
Catherine is incredibly young, at least compared to others, with not much experience in more severe situations. She is also physically weak, not being particularly fast or strong. There is also her major weakness in the extent of her magical ability, which was mentioned above in the occupation section.
Because of her steadfast beliefs, she can be very stubborn. She also can be very cold to people who would make great allies, just because they have a different view point to her.
Personality:
Catherine is generally a very happy, almost childish girl. She is often to be seen smiling and laughing. Being a missionary, part of her goals is to make everyone happy by preaching the word of the Lord. She loves to speak, although she does know when to be quiet. When she is cold or hungry, Catherine is quite grumpy. She goes quiet and snaps at people for no reason. Once she gets some food into her, though, she is usually fine. Catherine is very persistent and somewhat stubborn. She refuses to believe certain theories, such as ones that state God doesn’t exist. She is also somewhat cold and to people who believe those kinds of theories.
She does, however, like talking to people about things that worry them. She likes to train young children, because she finds their company enlightening. It reminds her of her home, with all the small children running around and learning. She quite enjoys music, so she has a habit of singing hymns at random times and she has the ability to play the organ and other piano-like instruments. She, being her, also quite enjoys food and cooking. Mainly because it tastes good and it fills up your stomach.
She does have some dislikes. A big one is disbelievers. She believes in the one god and the Holy Trinity, so she finds other religions quite strange. She sees these people as wrong, but one of her biggest pet peeves is people who directly oppose the bible, the ‘sinners’. Another pet peeve is bad cooking, but she can live through that.
Backstory:
Catherine Dello Iavaco was ‘born’ eighty-one years ago, but she appears to be around for a much longer time. Before her official ‘birth’ she was just a small child, unable to grow much. She ‘grew up’ like this, being raised by Holy men who raised her. They were the ones who got her to believe in God, and not to question him. They also helped her train her powers. Because she wasn’t growing, she still maintained an air of childish curiosity as no one was forcing her to grow up. This helped her learn to control her powers faster than if she did not have the interest. After she had gotten grips on her powers, the year she was ‘born’, she started to teach others how to use them. Only a few, though, all of which had much raw talent.
During the time she trained others, she grew. She started to age a bit faster, which was not unfortunate at her physical age. But because of such a long time of stunted growth she was still small and fairly weak. She was put in custody of a man who came from Holy See. He taught her about politics and educated her, taking good care of her. He continued to train her abilities. They were taken up and beyond what they were originally were. This man was really the one who drove her religion into her head, giving Catherine her most significant characteristic.
Everyday, he would take her to church. His bed time stories were Psalms and other holy fables. Whenever she asked a question, he would help her find the answer in the bible. He talked to Catherine about anything and everything, so calm and gentle that she never feared to talk to him about anything. He was firm when schooling her and made her learn to the fullest extent of her abilities.
Unfortunately, the man also had a lot of work. A lot of the time, Catherine was left in the care of some guards from a place far away. During these times, she worked and trained in solitude and prayed. Catherine resented this, but now she realises it was probably for her own good. Not only was the man helping her on these outings, she also learnt to be independent. She taught herself to cook, to train alone, to clean and, most importantly, to keep herself company. This came in use when she turned ‘twelve’. (She physically was this, but she was quite a bit older.) She was confirmed into the church and accepted responsibility for her faith. She also accepted responsibility for herself and went off to preach to the rest of Fantasia. She left with a backpack with clothes, a cross and an ornate Latin bible, along with some food and money.
So, for the past few years, she has been preaching all over Fantasia, going back to see the man who raised her every ten months. She has gone to many countries as a missionary to teach people of her ways. She also meets various children who have white magic abilities and helps them to find teachers.
Thus, we are up to the present day and the rest of her history is not yet written.
Sample Post:
Catherine smiled as the light of morning filtered across her face. It was morning and she was going to go to a school and preach today. She was in a small town with just over a hundred inhabitants. Everyone here knew each other.
She pulled herself out of bed and quickly changed from her thin pyjamas to her priestess robes. She did her hair up into a plait and put on her cross. She flung open the windows and, for no particular reason, called out “Good morning Fantasia!”
She looked down and saw a nun look up at her and smile. Catherine smiled back and called “Good Morning, Miss!”
Catherine was taking residence in the local church, which was kind enough to take her in for the week.
She grabbed her bible and flicked though a few of the pages that were written in Latin. She flicked over to the Psalms and remembered some of the nights spent back home. The Psalms and other stories read to her. She smiled faintly, remembering the one that was used to help comfort her about out living everything. She said it softly.
“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.”
She smiled, tucked her bible under her arm and walked out the door.
(The passage is Ecclesiates 3:1-8. Oh, and Vatican City is love )
