Canon Character Application
My name is Minya40 and I am 14 years old. I want to join this site because I’m not in any Hetalia-roleplay yet, and I see much potential in this one. I also love fantasy – and Hetalia, of course. I’m not very experienced in roleplaying, since I’ve only been in one roleplaying forum before, so I’m trying to get some experience. Everybody’s got to start somewhere, right? I have been roleplaying for more than one year, on and off and I normally post between the 100 words or up, really depends on the situation mark. Here is my application:
Character name:
Tino Väinämöinen, Finland
Age:
Looks like a 20-years-old. Actual age about 800 years, give or take some.
Appearance: Not very tall, young man with gentle, a bit childish, face. He isn’t heavy-built, nor fat. He has short-ish, light hair and big, purple eyes. He’s very cute and innocent-looking.
Finland usually wears a cape or a warm jacket, because it’s so cold where he lives. He likes warm and comfy clothes. He also prefers blue clothes for some reason, although if he’s on a scouting mission, he wears white or green clothes, depending on the season.
He mainly uses a two-hand sword when he fights, but he also has two hunting knives, the smaller one hidden in his clothing and the bigger one attached to his belt.
Personality: Tino seems a bit shy on the outside, but he really is a strong-minded and tenacious person. He’s usually cheerful, or at least he looks like it. He doesn’t always let others see his true feelings. He acts very “grown-up” and even though he might seem quiet at first, he likes long conversations.
He likes strange foods and events.
Finland doesn’t get mad too easily, but when you anger him, there’s no going back. He will stand behind his decisions till the end.
He’s always been a little timid, and the time he spent with Russia didn’t exactly lessen that feature of him.
Occupation and strenghts: Warrior class. He’s talented at using sword and strategizing. He uses his good agility and fast thinking to eliminate his opponents.
Finland can do a little magic, healing and summoning. He can summon nature spirits. Unfortunately they aren’t very strong in battle, but they can improve the strength of Finland’s (or ally’s) magic. This doesn’t help Finland alone much, because he can’t do any offensive magic, but it’s a great aid when he has an ally fighting beside him.
Finland lives very north, so he is strong in the cold. He’s also more experienced in battle than he looks, for he has won his former master Russia in a battle.
His extreme tenacity is one of his major strengths. It’s very difficult to confuse his mind with spells or such. He never gives up.
He’s also pretty good at cooking, even though most people would call his foods weird.
Finland can also take advantage of his cute appearance, because foes often underestimate his strength. And that can be fatal for them.
Weaknesses:
Since he isn’t very old, he can be a bit naïve at the times.
The fact that he doesn’t always tell his true feelings to others can be very problematic too. If someone hurts him, he just bottles the angry or sad feelings up and keeps on smiling. This might not sound very serious, but in the long run it keeps hurting him from the inside.
In battle, his small size can be a hindrance. He’s not very strong physically.
Backstory: Finland’s first memories are from the time he lived with Sweden. At that time he already got into fights with Russia. But the big fight was still ahead: France made Russia to invade Finland, because Sweden wouldn’t join the embargo of England. At first Russia didn’t plan Finland to be one with him, but when Sweden didn’t help Finland much in defending against Russia, the big nation clarified that he was going to take Finland to his house. Finland didn’t protest, because he was so disappointed at Sweden’s lame acts of helping him in the war. Also, Russia promised that Finland could decide of his own business.
The time with Sweden is one of Finland’s dearest memories, even though he could live more freely when he was in Russia’s house. Well, at least for some time, because after some time Russia greatly reduced Finland’s freedom. Finland could no longer decide of his own business. This made him so angry, that he started to desire for independence. When Russia had other problems in mind, like riots and a revolution, Finland saw his opportunity and declared independence.
But soon after that war, started a civil war that left many scars on Finland. The wounds haven’t completely healed by now.
Later, in the winter war, Finland got attention from many countries by defending against Russia so well. The battle was lost, but Finland kept his independency. People still remember his cleverness and strong fighting spirit from the winter war.
But because of this war, Finland holds certain bitterness inside him. Not many countries came to help him in the war even though they were oh-so-sympathetic for him.
Sample Post: (100 characters or above)
Finland gazed up in the sky. The first snowflakes were falling already, even though it was still October. The evening was cold and dark, but yet so beautiful.
Tino sighed and poked his scarf in a better position. He was happy about his warm, deep blue cape and mittens. Maybe they weren’t the best clothes in battle, but with cold and dark weather like this, they kept him hidden in the dark – and warm.
He walked in a snowy road. Actually, it was nothing more but a mere path made in the snow. But Finland knew this path very well. It was him who had kept it clear by walking on it every now and then. Finland knew there was a long way ahead of him, so he accelerated his walk.
He remembered this path very well. Every little curve in the road, the rocks and holes, the slippery, icy spots and places where the snow tended to pile as big drifts.
After some time (Finland didn’t know for how long, he had lost the sense of time) it stopped snowing and the sky cleared up. The snow sparkled in the light of many stars in the sky. This wasn’t anything unusual, but Finland enjoyed the beauty of the white scene.
The path divided into two ahead of him. He turned left, even though he knew that wasn’t the direction where his destination was. The path took him on a icy cliff with icicles hanging from the edges. He spent little time on just looking the beautiful scenery and then decided to continue his journey. He knew he wasn’t too far from his destination.
He snapped an icicle from the cliff and licked it. He could never resist the urge of doing that, even though he had been warned not to do that since he was a child. He started walking down from the cliff, eating the icicle while walking. When he reached the intersection, he turned right, the way he was supposed to be going.
After some time, he saw an inviting, warm-looking light coming from a window of a small cottage. He smiled and ran the rest of the way. When he reached the door, he was panting heavily. He took a deep breath and knocked the door. It opened and Finland slipped in.
“How have y’been?” asked a familiar voice just before the door was shut.
(That’s it. I hope my English wasn’t too bad. I‘m sorry for not being able to make very difficult sentences… And I hope this is passable, even though I don’t have very high expectations of my writing/roleplaying skills…)
