Canon Character Application
My name is Raku, or you can call me Kim and I am eighteen years old. I want to join this site because I fell in love with the APH fandom, and especially for Hong Kong. I also love a good RP. I have been roleplaying for a few years. I think since Middle School and I normally post between the 100-400(it depends on what I'm replying too I guess) mark. Here is my application:
Character name: Hong Kong[If a human name is needed, I will think of one]
Age: 167 years old or so, since the establishment in 1842(He's probably older than that. I am using the date from the Treaty of Nanking)
Appearance: He has short, choppy, brown hair that sits a bit above his shoulders. He has matching brown eyes. The most prominent feature on his face are the slightly large eyebrows that he had gotten from England, who had cursed them to be like that. They are larger than his fellow Asians.
Hong Kong has a rather thin build, much like the other Asians, although he probably holds a bit of strength due to training his martial arts skills.
It is obvious he is of Chinese dissent as he wears a dark red duangua with oversized sleeves that go past his hands (His Fantasia outfit is white with a black collar and gold trimming though. It also has blue Chinese symbols on both sleeves and he wears a wooden rack pack on his back).
Personality:
Hong Kong is a rather blunt person, saying what he thinks or feels he should say at that moment. At times it may even come off as a little cold because he does not express much emotion sometimes.
He is also sarcastic at times, mostly when he is in situations he wishes not to be in.
Even with these attributes, Hong Kong is very polite in his speech since he is a region and considers nations and other has his elders in a way. It is also due to the fact that Chinese culture usually requires the young to be respectful, and Hong Kong is rather young compared to many others. It also may be due to the fact that England probably made him learn proper English etiquette during occupation.
Hong Kong is also very reserved in nature. Not too big on showing his affections too openly in public. Although it may make him seem cold, he is very fond of those he considers family or friend and will go out of his way to help them if they are in need of assistance. He has a bit of trouble expressing himself in normal ways, but is very protectice of those close to him.
He's a bit tsundere(probably something he got from England) when it comes to certain things which is heightened by the fact that is very reserved about many things.
He takes things rather literal at times and isn't much on joking around.
Occupation: Oriental Medicine Practitioner
Strengths:
A strong region, he may not be as strong as others but holds a lot of strength for his stature. He is a formidable foe to say the least.
He is very protective of those and will fight for their safety.
Skilled in Martial arts, he is strong in close combat and with weaponry that may be used in his culture.
His determination keeps him from just giving up easily and is a fighter when it comes to things he believes in.
Weaknesses:
Because he does not govern certain elements in his life(always being occupied by someone), he does lack many things.
His military strengths reach a limit due to the fact that he was never required to defend his own borders because of occupation.
Hong Kong's determination sometimes becomes stubborness and will not willfully see certain things and miss some facts.
He tends to be a follower more than a leader, letting China govern his life and sometimes even letting England do so too.
Backstory:
He was first "born" around the Qing Dynasty as part of China. There he was raised by him for a little while until trade between England and China had grown rather strained. At this age, he was taught many Chinese customs. Such as Chinese calligraphy, martial arts, and whatever China thought would be good for the small region to know.
Hong Kong sooned witnessed the first Opium War. And although China tried to shield him from it, things ended with the Treaty of Nanking. Hong Kong found himself wretched away from China and became a colony under British rule.
During that time, he had become a rather stubborn child at first. Disliking England, he tried very hard to keep to his roots. He was forced to throw away his Chinese to learn English. He wore clothes from England and was taught proper etiquette. Rule over him grew tighter when the Second Opium War occurred, England winning once again.
He grew used to his life with Arthur. Although he had learned many things from him, he still kept to his roots, integrating both lifestyles as his own.
When World War II occurred, life became very strained. Pulled away by Japan from England, he found treatment by the other to be surprisingly harsh. He knew of Japan and China's strained relationship, but had no expected such harsh conditions. Life became stressful and tiring as he was treated harshly by the other. He did not let the other do so without resistance and was constantly trying to fight back, although his strength could not over power him. Japan, later surrendered Hong Kong back to England, where he slowly recovered from his treatment during occupation.
He recovered quickly though, finding that China still had a place in his life(Mainland immigrants went to Hong Kong during Civil War in China). Things started picking up for him as he started to become a growing power in the economy.
England and China seemed to be fervently discussing about his sovereignty and Hong Kong soon found himself back in China's arms. He now lives his life with China.
Sample Post:
It felt like a dream to find himself back in the same room he had grown up in. No longer did he see fancy English dressers and high tables with large, ornate chairs. He looked about himself, letting it sink in that he was back in his room where he had lived in while with China. It seemed the furniture had change to accomodate that he no longer was a small child.
He looked himself in the mirror. For many years he had worn shirts with stiff collars and cuffs, constricting vests and neckties, and itchy blazers. He had worn uncomfortable shoes and the clothes did not flow and were hard to move in. At least in his opinion. But now he was wearing a burgundy duangua. He wore flats that were easy to walk in. Comfortable and something Hong Kong had missed wearing.
Arthur wasn't a horrible person, and he clung onto certain aspects of the English life he was given. But it did not compare to the Oriental customs he had missed so much. The festivals, food, and firecrackers weren't the same and he could not enjoy the festivities with Arthur like he could back here.
Hong Kong headed out of the room and down the many hallways, growing familiar with the place again.
He stepped into the dining room to see dishes already set up. Some of his favorite food from when he was young were there.
A soft, rare smile had appeared on his face. He was home again.
